University-Level Math Tutor: Build Real Understanding at Your Own Pace
Online calculus, linear algebra, probability, financial math, and discrete math tutoring by a PhD mathematician.
University math moves too fast. You’re expected to understand in two weeks what took mathematicians decades to develop. That’s why most students end up memorizing formulas without actually understanding what they mean.
My approach: We go at a pace that works for you, building genuine understanding and developing the conceptual foundation you need.
About Me
Hi, I’m Anastasia. I have a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin, where I specialized in probability theory and financial mathematics.
Throughout my years in academia, I tutored calculus, probability, and financial math, TA’d for various math courses at UT Austin (from business calculus to differential equations to graduate-level probability), and taught computational finance as a lecturer at the University of Alberta. I am also a two-time International Mathematical Olympiad medalist.
The funny thing is, I’m terrible at memorization. I could never rely on it myself – I just forget what doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve always relied on understanding and practice instead.
And this guides my teaching approach: I help you understand the “why” behind mathematical concepts, not just the “how”. When you understand why calculus works the way it does, or what probability distributions actually represent, the formulas start to make sense. You stop relying on memorization and start thinking logically from first principles.

- Sequences and series (convergence tests, Taylor series)
- Multivariable calculus (partial derivatives, multiple integrals, vector calculus)

Linear Algebra
- Systems of linear equations and Gaussian elimination
- Matrices and matrix operations
- Determinants and matrix inverses
- Vector spaces and subspaces

Financial Mathematics
- Time value of money
- Derivatives and options pricing (Black-Scholes, binomial models)
- Portfolio theory and diversification
- Risk-neutral pricing and martingale measures
- Utility maximization and stochastic control
- Topics in computational finance and financial economics

Discrete Mathematics

- Combinatorics (counting, permutations, combinations)
- Graph theory and trees
- Relations and equivalence
- Number theory basics
- Recurrence relations

This isn’t an exhaustive list. In particular, for probability and financial math, I can work with students up to graduate level. If you need help with something not listed here (including other undergraduate math subjects such as differential equations or numerical methods), feel free to ask.
Is This Right for You?
This tutoring is for university students who:
- Feel lost in math lectures and don’t know where to start OR simply want to deepen their understanding
- Want to actually learn math
- Need patient, judgment-free help
I work best with students who want to understand the material, not just get answers for their next assignment. If you’re willing to work through concepts together, even when they’re challenging, I’m here to help.
How It Works
Concept-Based Learning
I focus on helping you understand the underlying concepts. When you truly understand the material, passing exams becomes more natural and less stressful. We’ll work through problems together, and I’ll explain things in different ways until they click. Patient, thoughtful explanations without judgment.
Online Sessions
We meet via Google Meet. Book individual sessions as you need them or schedule several sessions at once. I currently offer flexible availability Monday through Friday.
Pricing
CA$50 per hour
Questions Before Booking?
Email or text me – I’m happy to discuss your specific situation before you book.
Student Feedback
These are my student evaluations from teaching Computational Finance at the U of A:

Students consistently rated me 5/5 for providing clear, helpful feedback and creating a supportive environment where they felt comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas.
Ready to Understand Math?
Let’s work together to build the understanding you need.
